THE USE OF PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING TO IMPROVE INTEGRATED READING-WRITING SKILLS OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 03 SALATIGA IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025
This study was carried out at SMP Negeri 03 Salatiga. The aims of this research are: (1) To find out and analyze the difference of integrated reading writing skills of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 03 Salatiga before and after they were taught by using Problem-Based Learning; and (2) To find out the significant difference of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 03 Salatiga’s integrated reading-writing skills before and after they were taught by using Problem-Based Learning. This study employed a pre-test and post-test design in a pre-experimental design. There were thirty-two seventh-grade students from SMP Negeri 03 Salatiga as a sample. Pre-test and post-test testing, along with documentation, were used to collect data. The post-test was carried out following the treatment, whereas the pre-test was given before it. IBM SPSS software was used to examine the data that had been gathered. Seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 03 Salatiga had significantly different integrated reading-writing skills scores before and after they were taught by using Problem-Based Learning. The improvement in the pre-test and post-test mean scores demonstrates this. The Post test is higher than the Pre-test mean score. The Pre-test mean score of experimental class is 59.53, while the Post-test mean score is 81.88. It went up to 37.54%. As the significance value (sig-2-tailed) is 0.001, which less than 0.05. It shows that there is a significant difference before and after they were taught by using Problem-Based Learning at seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 03 Salatiga.
