THE USE OF GENRE-BASED APPROACH IN TEACHING PROCEDURE TEXT TO IMPROVE THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS WRITING SKILLS AT SMPIT ASSALAM BANDUNGAN (A Classroom Action Research at SMPIT Assalam Bandungan in the Academic Year 2024/2025)

This research uses a genre-based approach in teaching procedure texts to improve the writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMPIT Assalam Bandungan. This research answered two questions: (1) How is the implementation of a genre-based approach in teaching procedure text to improve the writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMPIT Assalam Bandungan in the academic year 2024/2025? (2) How is the result of using the genre-based approach in teaching procedure text to improve the writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMPIT Assalam Bandungan in the academic year 2024/2025? This research used Classroom Action Research as the methodology. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles and involves four steps: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Each cycle consists of one meeting. The subject of this research was 20 students from class VIII A students at SMPIT Assalam Bandungan in the academic year 2024/2025. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, observations, and documentation. The data showed that the students’ mean score in the first cycle was 68.50, and the students’ mean score in the second cycle was 76.75, and 85.00% of students successfully passed the minimum score. From the results of the research that has been conducted, it can be concluded that the use of a genre-based approach in teaching procedural texts can improve writing skills.
