Sari, Meita Efendy. 2025. Participants’ Perception on the International Work Camp Program for Speaking Skills. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State University (UIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Miftachudin, M. A. This research aims to describe participants' perceptions of the International Work Camp program regarding speaking skills. This research also identifies the challenges faced by participants during the program, as well as the strategies they used to overcome these challenges. This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. The subjects of the study consisted of seven Work Camp participants from Japan who participated in the program in Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed thematically. The results revealed that participants experienced more confidence and fluency in speaking English after participating in the program. Intensive interaction with participants from various countries motivated them to actively use English in real situations. However, participants faced several challenges, such as limited vocabulary, difficulty understanding foreign accents, and feeling insecure when speaking. To overcome these challenges, participants used various strategies, such as practicing often, mutual support for each other, and using tools like dictionaries and apps to support their learning process. This research shows that the Work Camp program contributes positively to participants’ speaking skills by giving real, direct, and collaborative experiences. It also shows that the psychological factors and environmental support are important when learning to speak English.
