THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS' SELF-ESTEEM AND STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION OF DESCRIPTIVE TEXT IN THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPIT DARUL FIKRI BAWEN

The study aims to explore the correlation between students' self-esteem and their reading comprehension of descriptive texts. It specifically examines the self-esteem levels of eighth-grade students and analyzes their performance in reading comprehension. This research employs a quantitative approach with a correlational design and involves 32 students. Data was collected using a research instrument: a questionnaire consisting of 10 questions to assess self-esteem, and an item test containing 15 questions to evaluate reading comprehension. The data analysis was performed using the Product-moment correlation method, and overall data processing was conducted with SPSS 27 software. The results of the study indicate that: (1) 68.75% of students have self-esteem scores that are above or at the average level, suggesting that the majority of students possess high self-esteem; (2) 68.75% of students scored above or at the average level in reading comprehension of descriptive texts, indicating that most students performed well; (3) there is a significant correlation between students' self-esteem and their reading comprehension of descriptive texts among the eighth-grade students at SMP IT Darul Fikri Bawen. The significance level is 0.20, which is less than 0.05, indicating statistical significance. The correlation cocíficient is -0.410. When comparing the calculated r-value to the r-table value, it shows that the calculated r-value is less than the r-table value (-0.410
